Listen to the prayer of Buddhist monks

What left a great impression on me was the prayer of Buddhist monks. All Buddhists have the same prayer, but they sing it or recite it in different ways. In my opinion, the most beautiful singing comes from monks from Sri Lanka. Every morning, before going to classes in the English language school, we had to pray with the monks. We had two monks in class (these are the two monks from the image above) of 300 students, they pronounced the prayer into the microphone and we would repeat after them. I like this prayer because it is so soothing that I will be able to ever forget it. That is why I want to share it with you:

Here are the words:

Buddham saranam gacchami – I go to the Buddha as my refuge.
Dhammam saranam gacchami – I go to the Dhamma as my refuge. (Dhamma – Buddha’s teachings)
Sangham saranam gacchami – I go to the Sangha as my refuge. (Sangha – person or group of people that follows Buddhism)

Then they say this for the second time  (dutiyampi) and third time (tatiyampi):
dutiyampi Buddham saranam gacchami
dutiyampi Dhammam saranam gacchami
dutiyampi Sangham saranam gacchami

tatiyampi Buddham saranam gacchami
tatiyampi Dhammam saranam gacchami
tatiyampi Sangham saranam gacchami

After this, they say the five rules every Buddhist has to follow:

(1) Panatipata veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami. I undertake the precept to abstain from destroying life
(2) Adinnadana veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami. I undertake the precept to abstain from taking things not given.
(3) Kamesu micchacara veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami. I undertake the precept to abstain from sexual misconduct.
(4) Musavada veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami. I undertake the precept to abstain from false speech.
(5) Suramerayamajjapamadatthana veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami. I undertake the precept to abstain from taking distilled and fermented liquors that cause intoxication and heedlessness.

Words of this prayer were took from  this link.
